Abortion is a well-known medical procedure in women's health. It's normal for women to feel nervous about an abortion procedure. A woman may feel better knowing ahead of time what to expect during the abortion procedure.

"PLANNED PARENTHOOD: WHAT HAPPENS DURING AN IN-CLINIC ABORTION" - PLANNED PARENTHOOD
VIDEO TRANSCRIPT:

Patient 1: I've thought about this a lot and I've decided that having an abortion is the right decision for me.
Health Care Provider 1: Sounds like you put a lot of thought into your decision. It's important that this decision is entirely yours and that you have all the information that you need.
Patient 1: This is what I need to do.
_____
Narrator: The following video offers a brief look at the steps involved in an in-clinic abortion. For more complete information about abortion or the abortion laws in your state, call the local Planned Parenthood Health Center or visit www.plannedparenthood.org .
Clients in the early stages of pregnancy receive information about two methods of pregnancy termination. In-clinic abortion, which is done by a doctor or advanced practice nurse in the clinic, and the abortion pill, which is done by taking certain medicines. The abortion pill can be taken up to nine (9) weeks of pregnancy.
The clients in this video received information about both options and have chosen to have an in-clinic abortion. This video will give you information about in-clinic abortion that occurs during the first fourteen (14) weeks of pregnancy. After fourteen (14) weeks of pregnancy, more preparation for the abortion is usually required.
______
Health Care Provider 1: Our clinic offers several ways to help you be comfortable and to lessen discomfort during the procedure. All of our patients receive a medication to numb the cervix, the opening to the uterus. We also give pills, such as ibuprofen, that helps reduce cramping. You can also request stronger medicines that can help with cramps or help you feel less nervous.
Patient 1: I think I'd like to get the pills.
Health Care Provider 1: Many women chose these pain medicines. We'll also show you ways to relax to help the medicines work even better. Did they tell you on the phone that if you chose certain pain medicines that you need to bring someone with you to drive you home? These medicines can affect your concentration and it would be unsafe to drive once we given them to you.
Patient 1: Yeah, my mom is going to drive me home.
Health Care Provider 1: That's great.
_____

Health Care Provider 2: Maria, have we answered all your question about the procedure? Are you ready to get started?
Maria: Can you tell me again how the abortion procedure is going to work?
Health Care Provider 2: Of course. After I numb your cervix, I'll gently open it wide to pass a slender tube into the uterus. Then, I'll gently use suction to empty your uterus. When the uterus is empty, the muscles of the uterus will contract to prevent heavy bleeding. You will probably start to feel cramps like a heavy menstrual period. If you feel uncomfortable, tell us. All of this takes is about five (5) minutes.
Maria: Okay.
______
Health Care Provider 3: Renee, I'll review the instructions about how to take care of yourself when you get home and also give you everything written to take with you.
______
Narrator: There's a nurse on call twenty-four (24) hours a day if you experience a problem that you think may be serious. Serious problems are very rare, but they include:
• very heavy bleeding
• very bad pain that's not helped by ibuprofen or resting
• an infection. Symptoms of infection might be fever or feeling really sick, or a bad smelling discharge.

Deciding how to handle an unintended pregnancy can be a difficult decision. Women sometimes make a hard choice because they care about their family or their future family. It is normal to feel many different emotions after an abortion: sadness, anger, relief, and the feeling of being alone are common. We want you to know that you're not alone. One in three women will experience an abortion sometime in her lifetime. Whatever your decision, we will help you with services or referrals. • Bless you planned parenthood, for standing strong against hypocrites and bigots and helping millions of women <3

  • Pro-Choice.

  • I get that this vid is kinda creepy, how everyone and smiling about their abortions, but come on people. This organization is really helping out people who need it. Regardless of your views on abortion, you have to realize that Planned Parenthood is WAY more about preventing pregnancies from beginning than terminating them. Which is why they offer all kinds of birth control plans and payment options. Without organizations like this, these kids would be getting dangerous back street abortions.

  • @hollyroddick yes, this is an accurate portrayal of how things are at a PP healthcare center. of course, this is a production and the delivery is stiff and hammy, but this is "it." you should know, abortion is 3% of PP's function. 97% of what they do are other things, including a majority of their services that are to PREVENT unplanned pregnancies.

  • All you people who have the hate on, you need to listen to the statistics: ONE IN THREE WOMEN WILL SEEK PREGNANCY TERMINATION. This means someone you know has had an abortion, and you're making them feel worse about a very difficult decision. Planned Parenthood offers family planning (ie how NOT to need an abortion) as well as alternatives to abortion (adoption, whether keeping the baby is an option, etc). If you don't support abortion, support PP for their role in sex ed and contraception.

  • Its sad how you people are coming on here to only bash other people to make there own decision to have an abortion! Its there body and there choice! You can't tell them what the hell they can do leave them alone!

  • It's the woman's choice. She has every right to terminate if she feels she cannot provide for the child

  • I thank planned parenthood for their unconditional support. And for people that Are against abortions, it doesn't affect you, so why point fingers? I think it's a matter of being mature. :)

  • Thank you for doing what you do in the face of relentless opposition. This is why I donate. This prevents so many of the horror stories of my mother's generation.

  • Thank you Planned Parenthood, for providing women with information regarding abortions. I support you 100%. :)
