Lauren sat the kitchen counter with her white laptop, scrolling up & down, muttering to herself. She was in her life guard uniform, with a sweatshirt covering her top & had her blond, wavy hair tied back.
Sitting across from her was a three year old. She possessed long, blond hair, similar to Lauren's, which was pulled back into a braided pony tail. The girl's eyes were bright blue, complimenting her perfect rounded baby face, and the eyelashes that practically flutter when she blinked. The child was quite stunning for a three year old.
"Mummy!" the girl called, banging her yellow sippy cup upon the wooden table.
Lauren looked up at the girl with a stern face.
"Hush, Erica, Mummy needs to get her homework done, before college gets out for summer break, & that Mum can make it to work," Lauren replied.
"Play!" Erica demanded, pointing at the scratched up, elderly looking guitar in the corner with her index finger.
Lauren sighed, shutting off her computer, and walking over to the corner, avoiding the cheerios that Erica had thrown on the tiled floor. She took a gentle grip on the fragile instrument and carefully placed it upon her leg.
"So, you'd like the usual song, right dear?"
Erica smiled with a slight nod.
Lauren pushed her hair behind her ear, and postioned her pale finger on the correct stings, then begining to strum. She sang, "I'm jealous of distance, when it pulls in all directions and these awful city lights won't give me shelter."
Erica sat in her booster seat, clapping & cheering with excitement.
Knock! Knock!
Lauren immediately stopped playing, causing Erica to cry.
"Aww, hush sweetie. Don't you know that is?!"
Erica paused for a moment, before her blue eyes widen. "Jay yay!" she screeched with joy.
Lauren laughed, and unbuckling her energetic daughter out of her seat, who then ran to the front door. She slightly pushed the excited girl aside, and opened the door for her best friend, JJ Thorne.
He stood there, dark blue, ripped jeans & a green sweatshirt. His hair spikey blond. He took a step inside, but suddenly knocked over by Erica who sprinted at him for a massive bear hug.
"Jay yay!" Erica yelled, jumping.
Justin chuckled, attempting to get his feet back on the ground. "Erica! I missed youu!"
"Me missed Jay yay! You brwing Ay Gee?"
"Sorry, hun AG is back in Seattle."
"Chwiss?"
"Chris, is back in the Bronx."
"Joe say?"
"Jose is.. acturally I dunno where Jose is."
Erica sighed with disappointment.
"But hey," JJ said, lifting Erica's chin, "I'm here, & we get to have the whole afernoon playing!"
Erica shuffled her feet. "I know, but last time Ay Gee gave me a cookie!"
Lauren spunned around, stern face at both Erica & Justin. "What did AG do?"
"Nothing!" Lauren's daughter reassured, then running off to the play room.
"Justin, thanks so much for babysitting. I know the band has a tour coming up, & I shouldn't depend on you often, but I need this extra job to cover my classes & support Erica. Being a teen mom isn't so great."
"I understand. That's what best friend are for."
"Thanks again. Just play with Erica & feed her a HEALTHY snack, would ya?"
"Will do."
Lauren gave a quick embrace, & left out the door, toward the beach. She walked about 10 minutes in the Los Angeles sun before acturally getting to the life guard building. She walked inside & inserted her card, indicating that she made it on time & that her shift had begun. Lauren placed her black sunglases on & climbed up at her post, which was the lifeguard tower closest to the snack shack.
She just chilled there, applying sunscreen about every hour, until something caught her attention. Athletic body, brown hair, & a surfer guy. Too gorgeous to be true, she thought. Ha, just thought to herself, & tried to ignore it. But she always shot a glimpse at him. At one moment the boy caught her staring at him, he gave her a wink & a wave.
She blushed.
