This poem is the story of the Schwabian Deutch or Banatian Germans and their fall after WWII in Vrsac and Serbia.

Banat is a region shared between Serbia and Romania, and was settled by Germans brought in when the area was under Austro-Hungarian control. During and before WWII the local population of German extraction was fervent supporters of Hitler and the Third Reich.

In the aftermath of the war, the local population dissapeared. While driving through the village of Mesic, when asking after is resident German population I was told - after a short pause - they "Went Home!", and a chill went through my spine as I thought prehaps we drove over them as we spoke!

Some do still live in the area, but describe theselves as Romanian today for ease of lifes sake. A few are open about their German heritage.

Such is the legacy of war.

Whether the Serbs went too far in their understandable revenge after World War II is for God, not mere man or poets to pass judgement.

  • Serbs did not kill Germans, Communists did. Also, Communists killed more Serbs than Germans did.

Also: whatever Germans and Serbs did to each other is nothing compared what is being done today with ABORTUS (ABORTION). Germans and Serbs are quickly disappearing from the face of the Earth, due to killing of their babies, before they were born.
