@TheEureka41 You are almost correct - it was the authorities who closed down these shows in England, not long after Joseph began work ,which was his own idea.Unlike the film, he was respected, protected& made friends.He wished to save up enough to buy himself a little house - that was his dream.But he was forced to go to the continent, where his inscrupulous new manager robbed him of his 50 quid savings.He arrived back in England destitute.Its then that Treves saved him, taking him to the hosp.

@flybreath Well actually many people involved in freak show chose to do so as they couldn't get job else where and made an unholy amount of money from freak shows.In fact once doctors shunned the practice of freak shows the people themselves were mad as the doctors were taken money from them that way.

Omfg the "I am not an animal, I am a human being!" made me cry so hard! I have prayers for him every night. I'd say hes regarded as the most beautiful man ever on what he had to go through and what a hard life he had. People say that they have a hard life but you haven't experienced what he had! I send love to heaven to Joseph! -3

imagine looking at that man and saying what a monster i feel real bad if i was ever to say it and i would bring shame on anyone who thought the man was an animal of any sort just remember its not the outside that counts its the insides of a brave and great man
