Flying South Padre Island August 31 and September 01, 2011

Here are two days of video on South Padre Island. Both flights where very short as in 30 minutes each. I flew August 31, 2011 in the evening and September 01, 2011 in the morning. I saw a sea turtle on the morning flight.

641danman, wow thanks. If i was on the news I was not aware of it. Would love to see footage of that if I was. I have been going to SPI every labor day for a while. That was my first time to Powerparaglide. I will take my equipment back next year and do it again. It is tons of fun!

Man I would not know where to take a hang glider. I flew from the airport at Port Aransas. Padre Island I flew outside of the city and then came over the beach.

If you look at 3:17 minutes in, he is hard to see, but there is a brown small spot to the left of my left knee. I was not low enough to get a good clear shot. It was easy for my eyes to see him swimming around, but the camera does not pick it up well. You really have to look at the video on a good computer at 1080p. He shows up again at 3:43 for about 2 seconds on the screen. The next day I flew over the bay side and saw a lone coyote. LOVE this sport !

Yesterday there was several kite surfers in the wind on the beach side. Today the surf was real rough and tide was too strong. Hard to even swim beyond waist deep. Winds have been going out to sea in morning even though very light and better in the evening. This morning I attempted to fly in the winds but my launch point was mostly under water and the winds were fairly strong. I was too close to road and power lines so I opted to just do a fast up and down and call it quits.

I fly a mosquito powered harness and have been wanting to take my hang glider to Mustang Island or Padre. Where are the best places to takeoff?

I envy you. I've done lots of kitesurfing on South Padre. Wish I could easily bring my PPG there.
