Starwood Festival, held at Wisteria campground in Ohio by the Association for Consciousness Exploration (A.C.E.) of Cleveland, has dozens of bands and something like 150 workshops, including a Church of the SubGenius devival and, at least at this one, a guest appearance by "Bob" Dobbs himself. Because this "slide-show" is composed entirely of photos by Princess Wei 'R.' Doe, Rev. Ivan Stang, Pater Nostril and Petal Nostril, it is very Stang-Doe/Nostril-centric and covers only a fraction of the many events and performers. It is also limited by our respect for the privacy of the attendees, so we show people's faces only if we know them and are sure they won't mind. Thus there are more "landscape" shots and "art shots," as it were, than crowd shots where innocents might be identified by employers or relatives who might be prone to misunderstanding the nature of Starwood.

The music used in this video is entirely taken from location recordings of various drum circles during the festival. Many actual bands and singers are shown, but not heard, including Halim El-Dabh, Kenny Klein, Phat ManDee, Chicago Afro-Beat Project, Cabinet, Broccoli Samurai, Elemental Groove Theory, Pyrosonic, Awen, Miguel Sague and Emerald Frequency. Speakers shown include Rev. Stang, Rev. Joost van der Liej, Kenny Klein, Oberon Zell-Ravenheart (CAW), Michael Mirth; artwork shown is by Waking Dream (the giant puppets) and Beth-Rosemary & Zeeb (the erotic fairy sculptures).

Wei is one of the main organizers of the festival and I, Stang, might be called the mascot skeptic/unbeliever. Special thanks however go to Jeff Rosenbaum and Joe Rothenberg, who (with many other folks who come and go) started the whole thing and have kept it going for 31 years now.

Starwood now follows the SubGenius X-Day festival, also at Wisteria, so we encourage mutants of all stripes to try and make both, for 2 weeks you'll never forget.

For a lot more information about Starwood, see rosencomet.com or look it up on Wikipedia. NOT to be confused with the Starwood hotel chain!
