Perhaps one of the most well-loved G & S operettas, The Gondoliers is packed full of tuneful songs and high spirited dancing.

  • Love this movie, it's the best version of the Gondoliers that I've seen

  • I love the Opera Australia versions of G&S operettas. I can't wait to see what they do next, I was disappointed that they didn't do one this season, although My Fair Lady was great. I love it in this version where they dance with the dummys - so funny.

  • So what version is this? Australia...? and where can I get a DVD?

  • This version copied a lot of their choreography from the Stratford Festival version from 1984. They were the first to do the dancing with the dolls and even Casilda and Luiz' little dance in this is in the Stratford version. And this version was 1990. The costumes are even the same just not as nice. I'm not trying to criticize it, I love this musical either way, but if you watch the Stratford version it has all the exact same things.

  • @flouraki That's because, to some extent, Sullivan was always parodying both the style and the substance of Italian Romantic Opera in his Operettas. Go listen to Sempre Libera, from La Traviata, and then go listen to Poor Wandering One, from Pirates. You'll immediately here Sullivan's "homage" to Verdi.

  • nice hair @ 0:50 haha

  • I'm in this show right now, with the Long Beach Shakespeare Company! The music is phenomenal! It gives my vocal chords a good workout, singing above the staff most of the time, lol.

  • Reminds me of Verdi a little.... :D
