My teammate/cameraman Jason and I collide while training for the 2005 national skysurfing championship, accidentally releasing my back foot binding and putting me into an uncontrollable 120 rpm (blackout speed) spin. Fortunately, I am able to pull the board cutaway handle and regain stability before the spin lasts long enough to cause me to lose consciousness.

Answers to the most common questions about this video:

1. No, I was not hurt.
2. The back binding released as a result of the collision with my teammate. The front binding released when I pulled the board cutaway handle on my right hip.
3. Skysurfing boards are designed to flutter safely to the ground. The board landed shortly after I did--it was undamaged, and I used it at Nationals about ten days later.

  • lol wen u played the song and synced it perfectly i laughed so hard

  • @JesterSnipes I'm glad to see that YouTube has restored the audio. Putting a link below the video that allows people to purchase the song is actually a pretty smart strategy--it benefits everybody.

  • Did that screw up your ankle? Could have gotten massive lig damage from that.

  • @LINYJumper Thankfully, I was uninjured (though very dazed). I think my leg was a little sore afterward but not nearly as bad as you might expect.

  • @OneSkiWonder Actually, in this case, because its such a large board, and its rotating so quickly, its likely to generate enough lift that it will actually hover. That's why it appears to go up when it disconnects - the board is quite likely still floating there today. Eventually, some poor bird will hit / try to land on it, creating an equal and opposite reaction, causing the board to fall to earth.

  • @kellja2001 doubtful.

there was no airfoil on that board and it could NOT have enough energy to generate lift for any sustained time. it probably was a hoverboard instead.

  • Excellent choreography. Excellent.

  • @TheManu4650 no way that was an epic WIN. He got out of it with the quickness.

  • HAHAHAH excellent video. Wow, Good job getting out of that. Hmm were you still singing during the spin? haha.
