My "Minifig Study" is a project to study LEGO minifig motions and timing for us in stop-motion animation (brickfilming). I'm using a CreativeLabs webcam for these studies, so the image quality is mediocre as a result.

This is my 2nd RUN test, this one at 8 frames per cycle (that's 4 frames per setp). The fig covers 4 studs per step.

Please comment on the run cycle and which frame rate you think looks best.

  • Nice! What program do you use for stop-motion? I have iMovie08 but it can only go down to 4 FPS so the clips aren't great.

  • @MilitaryLego I use primarily HeliumFrog for frame capture, and then MonkeyJam to manipulate those captured frames and turn them into AVIs. You can set MonkeyJam to whatever FPS you want. But they are both for PC.

  • since the minifig is running, you should also bend his body forward alittle.

  • Good point. I'll definitely have to try that.

  • This Reminds me of the roblox walk

  • It goes faster but the fps is higher?!?!?

  • please make a tutorial

  • funny when the fig falls down

  • For an 8 frame-walk-cycle, you'll need to suspend the fig in midair twice per cycle, that's once every 4 frames.

As for your suggestion of "the minifigure on top of two studs...", that's exactly what this run cycle has in it. During the 12 and 15fps parts, try stopping and starting the video a lot. If you get lucky, you may stop it on just such a frame. (I should've included a 2fps demo at the end of this clip to demo the exact frames of this run cycle.)
