Training Joost: a very green, coming five year old Friesian gelding with a history of bolting and slamming into fences. This is our second time cantering in this arena and really we have just begun our canter work. I was pretty pleased with the canter work to the left, as well as to right (see part 3), especially for this stage of his training. He was a bit more racey than I like to the right and he drops his shoulder. You can seem me making a correction for this. His poll is up higher than I would like, so we are working on him stretching down and nose out. It will come. He also has some abrupt down transitions that we need to smooth out. I have been working on being able to move his shoulders wherever I want them, so you can see that he abruptly moves over on the first attempt of lateral movement. Oh, and the half halt, you can really see his down shift when I half halt him. I can't believe the progress we have made in the past 6 weeks. Oh and it was windy and at feeding time. Nothing spectacular, just some basic dressage training in a western saddle. LOL
thanks. if you want to see some more, check user hereberen. she made me some videos of us working together.
