This is a good choice of tempo, and it is certainly a choice. The lady could, and still can,"lay it down."

This video is from 1976. Surely, the Mme.Marcovici perform of the Sibelius violin
Concerto can only be compared to that of Christian Ferras.

Great to listen to, as ever. Many thanks Noiresprit2004. You know, despite the wow and flutter on the tape, I still prefer old recordings. Maybe folks valued good music more then than today when everything is so high tech and soon forgotten.

I never cared much for Oistrakh's recordings of this piece (I wasn't alive when he was performing it...or recording incidentally.) Yes, if you can't play it correctly at the indicated tempo, then don't play it. But the problem here is a lack of imagination. I like to throw caution to the wind when I play this piece...Slbelius' writing allows for that. I have heard some boring recordings of this piece and it is simply because the performer made poor interpretative choices.

Yes. It is "Allegro Ma non Tanto". Fast but not too fast....right? Even though that is the case, there is a general standard metronome marking that about 95% of people use, and there isn't much deviation from that...I guess this would be one of the exceptions.

@theoceanave you realize Oistrakh played at the same temp? check the video, slow and student like? i think not. you know why? because a fast temp does not necessarily always make a great performance. there are many student who can play very fast but very poorly.
-
@theoceanave , yes you can take liberty with temp , but look at the temp marking for this mvt before you criticize .

great!

Slow and boring and student-like. Yawn. Certain pieces, you can take more liberties with the tempos. Not the Sibelius, though.

I was wondering if anyone could give some advice on this violin training program? It's put out by a violin teacher named Eric Lewis. I was given a violin for christmas and was given a stupid book that I can't figure out. Looking forward to your comments: Here is the link I found on google:w w w (dot) getgoodreviews (dot) com/go/violin_lessons (dot) php
She doesn't lack in technicalities!! She as a perfect techique, a magic and dense sound and her Sibelius is absolutely perfect!

I think , getting the notes right in tune is better than playing at full speed with almost none in tune.
