Critics widely praised Robert Schumann's hastily-- possibly maniacally-- composed Piano Quintet in Eb Major upon its 1842 premiere. The Piece follows typical scoring for a piano quartet: two violins, one viola, one cello, and one pianoforte. Clara Schumann originally performed the work.

  • This is the main theme to the 1982 film Fanny and Alexander by Ingmar Bergman... and it's actually Op 44, not 42.
