At the Royal College of Art's innovation night a talented student shows off a very clever idea - a UK 3 pin plug that you can fold away. I think he may make a fortune from this....

  • A power plug is only legal in the UK if it complies with BS 1363.

This design does not comply with the requirement for 9.5mm from any part of the power pins to the periphery of the plug, an essential safety requirement. It is not sufficient to use folding wings as shown in this design because there is nothing to prevent the plug being used with the wings still folded. The method of accessing the fuse is also illegal.

  • Meh US plug is still smaller and simpler lol

  • Also take a look at the new Thinplug watch?v=EuS8gW6v5ZU&feature=sub

  • If you are interested in folding plugs, take a look NOW at the new Thin Charger on You Tube!

  • Interesting, the person holding the camera sounds like Tiff Needell.

The plug design is fantastic though.

  • 2 ideas I thought of. 1. Magnetic induction plug. 2. plug with retractable spikes.

  • This is awesome!

  • Now, that's a good idea.

Just think of all the space it would save when packing a suitcase etc :)
