That's great. Most guitarists just asks for a tab. That's nonsense! If you learn to play a song with just your ears or with a video without instructions, then you aren't just limited to tabs.
Personal I play many songs just on ears. Easy songs. The last two that I've learned was lacs du connemera and pirates of the caribean mean tune. ^^
