when loading a game, the first LED on the timer bar will light up. This indicates that pawns should be placed on all of the squares that are pulsing with your color. Once you have placed all the pawns, the second LED on the timer bar will light up. This indicates that all rooks should be placed on the squares that are pulsing with your color. This continues for knights, bishops, queen, and finally king.

The board illuminates the squares where the pieces need to go. It starts with pawns, then goes to rooks, then bishops, then queen, then king. The LEDs on the timer bar for eash play tell which piece type needs to be placed. The first LED is paw, then rook...etc.
