The Story Of Aurore Gagnon (Warning - Graphic Dramatizations)

Aurore Gagnon

Aurore came into our world on May 31, 1909 in Quebec to her parents Marie Ann Caron and Télesphore Gagnon.

Aurore was one of four children.

In 1916 Marie Ann became ill with tuberculosis & was hospitalized.

Shortly after his wife's hospitalization, Télesphore invited Marie Anne Houde & her six children to live with him.

On November 6, 1917 Aurore's younger brother Joseph flew away at just two years old from suspicious circumstances.

Before long another on of Aurore's younger sibling also flew away under suspicious circumstances.

Marie Ann Caron died in 1918. A week later Télesphore married Marie Anne Houde.

Abuse inflicted towards Aurore escalated until she was hospitalized with a severe leg infection caused by a beating with a axe handle.

After a month in hospital Aurore was sent home with her father and step-mother.

Countless people saw or heard about Aurore & knew of the abuse she endured.

A neighbour heard Marie Anne say "I wish little Aurore would die without anyone knowing about it"

A family member who saw Aurore said she "was in a pitiful state." & Marie Anne told her "I will show you how well she washes the dishes when I beat her."

"The first time, I saw the accused beat Aurore with a piece of wood, a stick of wood that she had taken from the woodbox...

...The second time, she beat her with a switch. The accused said to me, 'She is putting her fingers on her bottom to have them broken.'"

"the accused again began to beat Aurore with pieces of wood. Then the accused burned Aurore with a poker."


"She would scream. When she screamed too loudly, Maman would gag her with a leather strap."

On Feebruary 11 Marie Anne hit aurore in her head with a hot poker & said:

"That is very good for her. We won't have to bother to send her to Reform School, because her head is starting to soften."

On February 12 1920 Aurore's body was covered head to toe with bruises & she was very weak- causing her to stay in bed later than usual.

Marie Anne forced Aurore get up. Once she arrived downstairs Aurore was hit in the head with a pitchfork handle.

Aurore collapsed on the ground.

On February 12, 1920 Aurore succumbed to her abuse.

When family members were asked why the did not tell anyone, they replied:
"Maman told us not to talk about it, or else we would get thrashed too."

At the time of her death Aurore had 52 injuries & blood poisoning from those wounds.

Marie Anne was sentenced to getting hanged but was reduced to life in prison. After 15 years in prison she was paroled because she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Télesphore Gagnon was charged with manslaughter & was released after five years.

once again, THE SYSTEM failed this child.

sadly we don't give you a common sense test before you can have a child but when they knew of saw and treated the abuse and still sent her back to that hell.... the system failed again.

I think it's good that Marie Ann didn't get hanged. She was sent to prison for 15 years, got cancer, suffered from it and succumbed to death. It must have been so painful for her cause there wasn't a good breast cancer treatment back then. Justice's served!

@girlshelpinghand That's spooky, I once saw amoive where a girl died in a fire (car accident) the other was born the same day, the spirit of the dead girl went in her..I know it's just a moive, but it's still spooky.
