All of the music for the Wolf's Rain soundtrack was composed and arranged by Yoko Kanno. The vocal songs are performed by various artists, including Maaya Sakamoto, Raj Ramayya, Ilaria Graziano, Steve Conte, and Joyce, and they were recorded around the world, including Japan, Poland, Brazil, the United States, and Italy to offer a diverse range of music and give the soundtrack an international flavor. Two CD soundtracks, produced by Yoko Kanno, Toshiaki Ota, and Shiro Sasaki, were released in Japan by Victor Entertainment.
Wolf's Rain Original Soundtrack, Volume 1 was released March 29, 2003. It contains twenty-one tracks, including the opening and closing themes throughout most of the main series "Stray" and "Gravity" and many of the background sounds used during key points in the main series. The soundtrack was released in the United States by Bandai Entertainment on May 11, 2004 under the title of Wolf's Rain Original Soundtrack.
Wolf's Rain Original Soundtrack, Volume 2 was released on January 21, 2004. It contains an additional 23 tracks, including the closing theme for the final episode of the main series "Tell Me What The Rain Knows", sung by Maaya Sakamoto and with lyrics by Chris Mosdell. It also includes background music from the final episode not included in the broadcast version, and music from the four OVA episodes. The second CD has not been licensed for release outside of Japan.
Summary of the ep. 30 scene:
The episode replays the opening scene from episode one, with Kiba lying in the snow saying there is nothing at the end of the road, no Paradise, yet he is still driven to find it by a voice that calls him. The falling snow turns into a wolf's rain, and the rain washes over the last few pages of the Book of the Moon, revealing a portrait of Lunar Flowers on what Hubb had assumed were just blank pages. The rain sends Cheza's seeds into germination, and washes away the old world in a palingenesis that reveals Paradise (but Darcia's wolf eye begins to stain this Paradise almost immediately). The next scene implies a change of setting to the present day, where Kiba, Tsume, Hige, and Toboe are seen in turn. Kiba, still searching for Cheza, is walking in the rain, then breaks into a run (which parallels the series opening animation) as the series ends.
