Blog entry 18th Dec. 2008 ADEYTO presents the Japanese art of gilding 金メッキ Kinmekki(gold plating).
Decorative elements of festival floats (Daishi 山車) or entire architectural monuments like temples (金閣寺 Kinkaku-ji in Kyoto) and castles allover Japan are hand-gilded in 24k gold.
The sap of the lacquer tree, today bearing the technical description of "urushiol-based lacquer" is applied in a very thin layer. The gold-leaf is then gently pressed or brushed in. For a solid coating, two, three layers of lacquer and gold-leaf may be applied.
This documentary belongs to a series called "ADEYTO -visual diary-" that began due to the fact that ADEYTO is to busy to actually write a diary entry.
