Barely a few hours after the death of blues legend Mel Brown, March 20, 2009, grief-stricken guitarist Shawn Kellerman pays wordless tribute to his musical mentor with a heart-wrenching rendition of Love is Sweet, a song written, but never recorded, by Brown.

Backed by Brown's band, The Homewreckers (Scott Urquhart, guitar, Al Richardson, bass, and Jimmy Boudreau, drums), Kellerman and pianist Julian Fauth are the opening act for Mavis Staples at The Gig theatre, a concert that Brown was originally scheduled to play.

  • There's a reason this man seems inspired. If you know Shawn or knew Mel you would recognise this as one of Mel's guitars. Shawn was extremely inspired and motivated by Mel's encouragement and appreciation of his talent. This is a truly fitting tribute to the old legend that fostered a future legend.
