Here is sample of what you might hear using a simple regenerative shortwave receiver. Many amateur radio operators became interested in radio through the "magic" of shortwave listening and building inexpensive electronics kits. 73 de NG9D

  • A very nice clip. I noticed the power switch on the front panel, was in the middle position to light the Led. On my 1253, the switch did the same thing, so I changed it. I would advise anyone having the kit , to test the switch to see if it works. Apart from that , let's all enjoy using the 1253 and later on maybe even improve it or modify it, for more reception surprises.fenech97

  • @fenech97 Nuts, I inadvertently deleted the nice comment you made on the other T1253 video. Anyway, I am glad that you got your T1253 working and yes - an antenna cut for resonance on a particular frequency (or tuned with an ATU) will dramatically improve reception. Thanks and congratulations on your new shortwave receiver. 73 de NG9D

  • Pleased to meet you Sir: The MFJ regenerative shortwave rcvr kit was the first kit project I ever built. Had to more or less keep one hand on the tuning knob and one hand on the regeneration control- not near as stable as your Radio; however, It worked and I was satisfied. Your starting to sell me on Ten Tec. Noticed at 1:07 the German Language Broadcaster. Sounded like Duesche Welle and one of thier Carribean Relay Sites. I was DW Tech Monitor for a year, learned a lot. TNX AR DE KG6QNK VY 73

  • KG6QNK DE NG9D - TNX FOR THE COMMENT - IT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO KNOW WHAT A TECH MONITOR FOR DW DOES? 73 DE LYNN, NG9D . .

  • How do you tell what frequency you're on?

  • Thanks for the question! Many folks might not realize that the local oscillator frequency of the regenerative receiver (T1253) and the direct-conversion receiver (T1056) IS the receiving frequency. So, if you are a ham or SWL with a digitally accurate receiver all you need to do is listen to the oscillator signal and you can create a simple tuning scale. The tuning scales are surprisingly accurate and the process of charting the coverage of each band is part of the fun.

  • I think this reciever is excellent for the price and someone with some technical and mechanical knowledge can modify it int a portable or vintage table reciever.and it will be easy to repair if anything goes wrong with help from tentec.

  • @956jbjurt8g Click On Keywords: IBB Monitoring. At the bottom is short article about Technical Monitoring. For those with a lot of Time on thier hands. Finally did get licensed- Extra Class and have done some building; but, I can have Fun with a simple ShortWave Radio. DW Page has a little info- great circle maps... more XMTR Sites than I previously remembered- I might get in touch with some of these People. More than you wanted to know! Repaired TTY & Crypto back in the day. TNX VY 73 ..

  • @956jbjurt8g Helpful if I could spell! As I recall (been a few years) The Deutsche Welle Transmitter Sites bsides Germany were in the Carribean (Bonaire & Antiqua- as in your sample) and one Relay in Kilgali, Rwanda. The last went through the Auorora Curtain Around S. Pole to Cal. would have characteristic rapid flutter fade. DW does have interesting Frequency & Measuring Station I would love to tour. Alas, definate emphasis on the Internet these days. Hope this helps clarify. TNX VY 73 ..

  • @NG9D Basicly, Monitored as many of thier English and German Transmissions as I Could in a 24 Hr. period, about 50! and send them Monthly reports about Signal Quality. Kept me busy for a year. Non-paying, strictly volunteer- I love these HF Bands. They did send me highly educational material about SW and a nice gift from time - time. BBC uses automated machines Globaly pos. to do same. Some SW Broadcasters Still use Monitors, not sure about DW. CRI asked me to Monitor Albanian Relay- No way!

  • If you are interested in radio/CTCSS you can buy great little kits from cstech.co.uk, take a look now! x

  • Lol! The first was Radio Nacional de España (RNE) ¿WTF?
