This the original UK version... US and Australian version was different.

The verse that's changed says...

You've got that backwards. The original INCLUDED the sacred cow lyric, but it was censored out because of the possible offense to the Hindi population as well as its not so veiled reference to the Vietnam war (lots of blood in Asia now).

Back in the 60's, sex, drugs & Rock & Roll were looked down upon by the "Establishment." So, the "birth control" version is the original Euorpean version. The "sacred cow" version is the modified American version.
