@flyingmonkey934 pardox you cant change time with out leaving traces. Donnie fixed the time parodox by dying like he shouldve at the start. this is how i interprute the film other ppl will see it differently.

@flyingmonkey934 the people who have caused Donnie problems in the film and done immoral things are effected negativly and frank shows an expression of shock from killing gretchen which a base part of him feels while gretchen and donnies mum reconise each other even though they havnt met before due to the fact that the events of the film never actually happened this is due to the fact a little part of the emotions stayed with them. This is a clever film that explores the theory of time

Ok this is how I see the ending of this movie Donnie has gone back either to save Gretchen or to save the world as well as is his mum and sister at this point donnie has figured the pattern of time. Just before this scene a extract from the end of time book mentions how when people have layed a part in alternate time thay feel after effects which is why the people

@sarahbelle70 many ways to interpret movie, in order for donnie darko to save his gf he went back in time to when jet fell on his house. This scene was first scene in movie before he meet his gf or had any real contact with other characters. There is also intrepration that world was out of balance because he was suppose to die in beginning. Often refering to the world was going to end, so in order to save world he went back in time to die. Hence little joke donnie darko is a hero.
