Nisi Dominus ædificaverit domum:
in vanum laboraverunt qui ædificant eam.
Nisi Dominus custodierit civitatem:
frustra vigilat qui custodit eam.

Vanum est vobis ante lucem surgere:

surgite postquam sederitis
qui manducatis panem doloris.


Translation:

Unless the Lord builds the house,
they labor in vain who build it.
Unless the Lord guards the city,
the watchman stays awake in vain.

In vain you rise before the light:

do not rise until you have rested,
O you that eat the bread of sorrow.
