yea, this is a squat clean. Alot of people don;t know the difference though. You can clean more weight in a squat clean position. His actually power clean is probably 275 at best.
High elbows prevent excessive stress and strain on the wrists, and also prevent the bar from slipping down the front of the body. Not quite as important for a power clean, but for a squat clean (which this is) it's vital. It also prevents the elbows from crashing into the knees, which can cause things to break and snap. It's for safety as well as a solid rack position, and is simply good technique no matter what you're lifting for.
elbows don't need to go any further than infront of the bar..don't need to be 90 or any of that bullshit. This lift is for functional power that will translate to the field..not for olympic level scrutiny. So all in all this is a powerful kid and a functional lift.
