Send me some pictures because I forget.
The final sad track on that record skip skips

because you played your mistakes out too often,
rehearsed so you knew all your failings by heart.
Like a forest full of trees that can't be anything else.

I'm in love with the tulips because they're flowering
& they mean it. There's a wedding in the park

that might not need explaining but I've added
clarifications then deleted the clauses in my latest revision.
You're reading only this, my best afternoon version.

I won't mention the dresses or the hairstyles
or the smiles I'm suspicious of & if you ask me

to make a list of the things I've taken out I'll say
hell no but I'll talk about my hope & I'll start
with my faith. I'll say goddamn because I'm frustrated

by my own annotations, these words I've used
wrongly to make sense of the weather. Lost

on television, I need an intermission. If looks
could kill, I'd kill your indecision & I'd pedal
on two wheels straight into the sun. What we hate

most of all is getting what we ask for exactly. Hence
the phone in its ringing, the Americano

I'm drinking, hence nuptials interrupted in the square
by my singing. Call me a sucker &, baby, I'll believe it.
I'll believe anything you tell me. When you say the birds

were wonderfull, I won't hear you crying & if you say
you're a book made for coloring, I'll try to stay in the lines.
