Oh hello! Have you ever tried cleverous 402 diet (do a google search)? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my cooworker lost a lot of weight with it.
20% fat is too little. Even the orthodox nutritionists consider 30% a good amount and don't think it's a good idea to go lower, for the risk of not getting enough EFA or eating too many carbohydrates. Eating more fats is the best things a diabetic can do since GI index aside, the Glycemic Load (the total amount of carb) is still relevant and it's better to substitute fats for carbs rather than proteins for carbs, since proteins require insulin to be metabolized unlike fats.
Dr. Bernstein is too strict and excessive. There's a great forum called Diabetes Daily and most people there managed to lower their blood sugar and get off medication even without following the super low carb diet of Dr. Bernstein. In fact many of them didn't feel good on such a diet and suffered from erratic blood sugar going up and down throughout the day and some even had worse spikes from meat than grains of beans. Most diabetics there follow an healthy, moderate carb diet.
It is claimed that fat increase your blood sugar ???
