Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 It was clear to designers and engineers at an early stage that the SLS AMG possessed superb genes for a race car. Its technological setup and superior dynamics clearly pointed to the development of a GT3 racing variant. The aggressive design of SLS AMG GT3its deep, wide and powerful stanceis aunique mix of brute and beauty. Track capabilities are maximized by precise modifications to the bodyshell, which makes extensive use of lightweight carbon fiber. Consistent lightweight construction is religion throughout the SLS AMG GT3s aluminum space frame and double wishbone axles, creating the perfect base for speedy lap times. The optimized chassis, drivetrain, braking system and aerodynamics help the SLS AMG GT3 achieve peak performance on the track. Power is provided by the hand-built AMG 6.3-liter V8 engine with dry sump lubrication connected to a 7-speed dual clutch transaxle mounted at the rear of the vehicle. Absolute engine output will be adjusted to meet the homologation regulations of the race series that the customer chooses to compete in. While tests of the SLS AMG GT3 will take place throughout 2010, it holds significant potential to compete in multiple series,including GT2, GT3 and ALMS for the 2011 season.
