It's a bit ambiguous - you can read it lots of ways. Maybe Emmett and Bella didn't really hook up and she dreamed it, or Edward doesn't know they did, or they did and Bella's going back to Edward for good.

But I intended it to mean that Edward has such low self-esteem that he's willing to stay with Bella, even knowing that she's messing around with Emmett and that everyone knows it. Poor Edward :(
