Year of commission: 1998

This is one of the first newly constructed passenger lifts (i.e. not those converted from staff operated goods lifts) in metro/subway stations. The powertrain includes Bucher Hydraulics propulsion pump plus one single roped propulsion ram, and oil supply pipes by Leistritz, Germany.

The car design is of the earlier type, with only the two side walls utilizing glass, and the floor indicators have no LED numeric displays.

Didn't the MTR abandon this design as of late.

Yes. Elevators commissioned in 2006 or later have standard size erose stainless steel buttons. At least all Kone machine-room-less models feature such.

I dont understand why for the longest time the MTR insisted on elevators with such weird buttons.

How weird? These buttons are the most easily distingushable just by touch feeling for those blind.

@jonathan19960804 Pre-pressed buttons don't allow the car to remain idle even with the door closed.

And they're wayyyyyyyyyy accessible to blinds without the need of reaching for the button then.
