From what I see, I don't think the Remote Touch (RT) will replace the iDrive. With RT, you'd need more coordination because it appears you need to know when to stop the cursor when it hovers a button whereas with the iDrive you don't have to do that and theres just easier memory, which you do need since the eyes on the road comes first.
The problem I have with the touch screen is that it takes too much concentration for the driver to use it. Also, it is chronically smudged.

hmmm I guess touch screen navs aren't "in" anymore.....gread idea though still would have to try it out before anything.
