I bought the Insignia NS-HD01 HD portable radio at Best Buy the other day. This radio goes for $50. To give others an idea of what it can pick up in the West park area of Cleveland, Ohio, I set my camcorder to capture the scan of the radio dial. I was using a cable with a plug on one end that fit in the NS-HD01 headphone jack (standard walkman size jack) to left and right rca phono plugs going into my aux in my stereo system. That cable acts as the antenna. I have to turn the volume all the way up on the NS-HD01 to get a decent volume range on the stereo system, and it;s still not as loud as the component FM tuner. The video is a bit distorted due to the camcorder trying to record a LCD screen, which is not easy without some type of video artifacting.
Sorry so long to get back to ppl. I'm sure it's not water proof/resistant any more than an inexpensive iPod knock-off would. It uses the headphone cord as an antenna, or in this case the patch cord going into my stereo amp. I've heard of ppl hooking up external antennas that worked by dividing the headphone output to an antenna with good results. I tried it with poor results.

It has a built-in non-user replaceable battery much like the iPod, a Li-ion battery I believe, but can't find documentation on it in the user manual., It comes with a USB charging cord only, so one end goes to your computer and has a "mini-USB" plug on the other end. that plugs into the radio. However, if you have an AC charger with a mini-USB on the end that you use for a cell phone or mp3 player, etc., that will also charge it.
