Scene from my favorite Bonanza episode guest starring the great Hoyt Axton, who sings some great songs in it. Pernell and Hoyt have a couple of good duets in the episode too. This one is called "Strongest of Oak".

  • That was heavy. What the heck happened in the story?

  • @deanace777 Hoyt Axton plays a man who seems to be inherintly evil but Adam Cartright believes there's good in him. You can actually watch this on YouTube. Search for "Bonanza Dead and Gone Part 1". Someone uploaded it in 5 parts. youtube.com/watch?v=qJflEEc_dCM

  • Is he still alive?

  • @erin1799 Both men in this video are no longer with us. Hoyt died in October 1999 & Pernell in January 2010.

  • RIP Pernell Roberts (Jan 24, 2010)...I just found out.

  • Is there any studio recording of this existing (from Hoyt Axton)?

  • As far as I know, this was only recoded on this episode of Bonanza. Hoyt's site doesn't mention it on any recordings other than the show.

  • Here's my take on the lyrics, but could be a little off: Strongest of Oak is the gallows Tighest of knots is the noose Why oh why did I kill that man Now I'll never get loose Now I'll never get loose I've rode o'er hot, dry deserts And over mountains tall I believed in the bad land sayin' "A good gun never falls" "A good gun never falls"

  • RIP....

  • Yes, this is one of Hoyt's albums, I just rediscovered him, he was so good, I don't

know if he wrote this, look at Amazon, t hey have a lot of albums.

  • They forgot something. After Adam leaves he sings " Now Adam don't you cross the law. Never ever cross the laaaaAAAw. Or you'll end up in. YAY you'll end up in. You'll end up in... yeah" I think he (Hoyt) is talking about jall or posibley hell.

  • GOD I LOVE THIS GUY!!!!<333333
