UNAMID Force Commander General Martin Luther Agwai briefs the press one day after a UNAMID helicopter was shot at while it was flying over JEM-controlled territory.
The General is right about the fact that the world expects the peacekeepers to keep the peace in Darfur but have tied their hands. The peacekeepers do not have proper equipment, mandate or power.
They are just sitting ducks in Darfur who can do nothing but stay in their base and "keep the peace"
Gen. Martin Agwai experienced the rough edge of the UN politics. These UN Darfur troops are supposed to police Darfur (The Size of France) with less than 5 helicopters! Yet many rich nations have many decommissioned choppers heading for the junk yard and refuse to atleast lend them if not donate them to the peacekeepers.
