Mark Anderson's Pyrophones was the show stopper of Power Plant 08 in Liverpool's Calderstones Park.An elaborate arrangement of metal pipes, topped with propane burners sporadically shooting balls of flame into a South Liverpool sky from the centre of an Old English Garden. Hidden away to one side under the protection of a fabric pergola, the artist controlled the installation through a computer to which was connected a keyboard. A weird and lasting combination of lugubrious horns, bright light and occasional blasts of intense heat. A bit like Liverpool but what a way to spend part of a Saturday night!
