Just look at his face, hardly any wrinkles, very youthful for a 60 year old. Shows what vigorous exercise can do for you.

today in his honor there is a running style in ultramarathon that's called cliff shuffle and most of the athletes are using it in modern races. also he didn't want to take 10.000 dollar reward, and said other runners suffered much more and wanted them to have the money. i have read his story few years back and was truly amazed, mostly because i myself am a running freak and I have even done half iron man marathon, but after his accomplishments that really looks insignificant. :)

he was truly a legend. at the time, he was 61 years old, and asked his 80 years old mother to be his coach. cliff came to the start line in farmers boots and pants, and everybody thought he was joking when he asked for his starting number. he had slower rhythm than everybody, but didn't sleep 6 hour a day like the rest, so he made great difference during the night. when reporters asked him 'what is you tactics', he answered - tactics? to run to the finish line obviously...
