Hurricane Neki continues showing signs of strengthening as the very large tropical system moves just west of the Hawaiian Islands.

Neki formed from an unusually large area of convection circulating just south of Hawaii, taking on a low level center of circulation that is now wrapped with intense deep layer convection.

Neki is expected to drift northwestward over the next 2-3 days with some strengthening likely if upper level wind fields remain favorable (less than 10 kt. of shear) as a trough to the north tries to stall some of Neki's westward drift in the extended forecast. appearance.

The latest on Hurricane Neki:

Sustained Winds: 75 mph

Moving: NW 15 mph

Estimated Central Pressure: 992 mb

Wind field projection for Neki moving just west of the Hawaiian Islands

Neki will move just east of Johnston Atoll and with its northwesterly track move to the west of the French Frigate Shoals late Friday/Saturday.
