You tell him bro Halliburton totally had a hand (a very dirty one i might add ) in this oil spill. They were in charge of capping it correctly before this all began if i'm not mistaken. Also totally true about the dirty water for troops. Keep the fight going Fellow INFOWARRIOR!!!! Two thumbs up to you!!!

It is not my job to educate you about the culture over at Halliburton (which was responsible for doing the cap) and how they cut corners and put the environment at risk. Halliburton has been responsible for US servicemen dying in Iraq from bad water and electrocution due to shoddy work.

This deep-water project for Halliburton was not executed properly, and as a result , 11 guys got cooked-to-death and damaged your state. If you don't know after working out there, who is the idiot?

Why do you think I watch MSNBC? I do not.

The United States of America is the only nation which does NOT require remote shut-off capability in case of an accident OR require relief pressure wells for deep drilling, period.

You may rant and rave all you want -- it doesn't change anything. It was "Dick" Cheney and his energy-task-force, stripping away environmental protections for his fellow Americans.

Why isn't it on the networks? Who owns them?

There is no "guy with a gun". There's a federal government who's looking into prosecuting BP under 3 separate environmental acts. They're going to try prosecuting BP under these laws whether or not they agreed to post the 20B.

The cash they posted was good faith money.

People need to understand the facts behind these arrangements instead of calling stuff like this "a shakedown" or unconstitutional. It's obvious that many people just believed the perception and not the reality.

BP could have said no, and walked away from the arrangement.

Wow, and coming from a person in LA!

I suppose "Dick" Cheney's energy task force -- the same one who removed those financially burdensome "precautionary measures" like remote shut-off valves costing $500K -- or having pressure relief valves in place for Deep Water Drilling-- this is okay with you???? USA is the only nation in the entire world stupid enough to allow drilling w/no environmental protection, whatsoever.

Are you so partisan you are blind to this?

Hayward agreed to it because he's getting off easy this way. If they took the time to calculate how much BPs damages really are, it'd be a little more than 20billion. He wasn't forced to hand over this money. It was an easy agreement for him. Calling it a shakedown is so much of a stretch. Everyone wants to grab this image of obama pummeling BP with an iron fist, and that couldn't be further from the truth.

There is a big difference between the scenario you just described, and what BP did. What BP did was cause a state of emergency. This was also not something Obama "forced". It was something he and Hayward agreed to. The reason Barton's statement was so stupid, is because he's giving listeners the impression that Obama has the ability to force BP to give up that money, and he doesn't. It has to be a mutually agreed upon arrangement.
