The Grey Gardens house today, gorgeously renovated. This is the outdoor, backyard view. Check out the two windows on the upper left -- that's where the upstairs porch used to extend from, where the Beales used to sun themselves. The area of trees to the far right is where Edie first demonstrated "the best costume for the day." You understand.

  • Reading some of these posts, I'm relieved to know some people recognize a travesty when they see one.

  • @MPL029....Yes, and no regard for history or the love Edie had for this place. A bored, rich country club wife w a Martha Stewart fetish!

  • a want this movie in spanish traductions

  • @kentuckydamson

That's a load of crap. She sold this house for good money to editor Jill Quinn. All the furniture was wrecked in the attic. No one stole anything, dsspised anyone, or did anything wrong. Even suggesting that is ludicrous! Did you just dream that up? Where do you get your assumptions?

  • @kentuckydamson

that's a load of crap. she got a lot of money for her house from editor Sally Quinn.

  • Ben Bradlee and Sally Quinn restored the house. Ben Bradlee was the powerful editor of the Washington Post who helped bring down President Nixon (watch "All the President's Men"). Sally Quinn was his much younger wife who was the Post's society and features editor type. I'm glad they didn't demolish the house. So many rich people would have lied to Little Edie and then found some excuse like dry rot to tear it down and build a McMansion.

  • Whoever restored this house must have had a shitload of money!!!!!

  • apparently little edie undersold it to some media person who charmed her. she was persuaded to just hand over the key and walk away from grey gardens, she even left all of the contents and the new owner found many letters and ephemera, but i got the feeling she despised the beales and didnt value the the stuff as artefacts.then turned the house into stepfords wives suburbia, real shame

  • @gingo1983 and a lot more cats!

  • Although very attractive..it's seems to basically counter much of what the Beales ..especially Big Edie.. seemed to value and stand in opposition to. Gone is the Louisiana bayou ambience only to be replaced by pretentiously unpretentious tasteful distinction and total conformity. And of course historically accurate colors! It's now very "Turkey Hill Farm"...I expect Nate Berkus to step out any minute in Ralph Lauren and give us a tour.
