I dont necessarily believe that the bad start cost War Emblem the race. I do seem to remember another horse falling to their nose at the start of the belmont a few years ago and SHE battled back to beat a supposed "superhorse". JMO

I liked War Emblem. He was such a little character. I think at the Derby he took a swipe at another horse going to the winners circle.

War Emblem didn't lose the Belmont because of the stumble. He bumped into Magic Weisner and straightened himself out, then achieved perfect stalking position.

Unfortunately he soon became rank and proved that he couldn't rate.

Never heard a crowd roar so loud as when War Emblem went to the front.

I remember watching this Belmont on TV. There was a point in the betting that Sarava was 127/1.

I usually enjoy it when a longshot comes out of no where and beats everybody. Keeps us from feeling so smart all the time. Only the horse really knows how it feels on any given day, or if it has some "run" and is good to go. Still, I hope Big Brown isn't sideswiped by a longshot in the Belmont and beaten at the wire.
