Carta para o Presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Letter to the President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva:

Dear President Lula,

I stand here to ask for your help in saving my father, Chong Jin Jeon's life.

My name is Bonnie Jeon and I am 19 years old. I have two older sisters. I am the youngest.
I have very little memories of my father when I was young; nonetheless, they are incredibly precious to me.

He taught me about responsibility.
When I was just 5 years old, he bought me 2 puppies that needed a lot of care and love.
I remember the night when my father woke me up gently with a birthday cake, singing happy birthday.
Though he was extremely busy with his work, he was always a family man.

When I was 6 years old, my family moved to South Korea.
I was upset with the decision because I loved Brazil, I am a Brazilian.
Yet, my parents said it was necessary for my sisters and I to learn the Korean language and culture.
Since our move to Korea, I knew my father was busy with work and couldn't spend as much time with the family due to his business travels.
However, he always made sure to come back home during vacations to spend time with his family.

But, one day, he did not come back.
I didn't know why. My parents hid from my sisters and I that my father was imprisoned.
One day, my mother asked me if I wanted to speak to my father.
She handed me a pen and a piece of paper, with no explanation.

For a long time, I only wrote letters to my father.
It was the only way of communication. Without knowing about his arrest, I complained a lot how he worked too much, how he never called...

After 1 year and 7 months, my father finally came back home and we were later told about his arrest.
I was very happy with his return.
Those were the happiest moments and days of my life.

My family returned to Brazil in 2001.
We lived happily until that day in 2003, the day my father had to leave his home, because the Korean government had asked for his extradition.
Our happiness of living together did not last long.
Once again, my family was forced to live separately.

I grew missing my family in my life. I was always alone. Even in my graduation.

My mother was tremendously busy with solving my father's case and working to sustain the family.
Every time I saw my friend's family taking pictures and sharing laughter, I prayed to God asking to bring my father back home, to allow my family live a normal life.

To this day, I continue praying.

President Lula, my father cannot be extradited to Korea. He holds the most powerful weapon, the truth.

I am young, but I am aware of the life risk my father faces by being sent to Korea.
It is sending an innocent to a guaranteed death.

My father is, like what people say here in Brazil, a scapegoat, a piranha's cow, sacrificed to save the life of powerful ones.

Please, President Lula, I ask for JUSTICE upon my family.

Sincerely,
Bonnie Jeon.

  • Justice be done!

Lucas 18:3-5
