Drifter is a quizzical country & western song about an earlier era cowboy that just never settles down in any one place long enough to grow roots, or become attached to anyone.
The original idea is Dan's, and it fit nicely with a guitar melody that played over and over in his mind while walking his postal route. The song received an Honorable Mention in an amateur song writer's contest decades ago.
The original lyrics and music were written in 1985 by Al Curving and Dan Laurie, registered with the U.S. Copyright Office in 1985 as part of the album Slices of Life in Story N Song Vol.2, and revised in 2009 to this version.
