Huge Tree Snaps in Hurricane Irene from an estimated 80mph Wind Gust - Duck, North Carolina on the OBX - August 27, 2011. Video starts showing a tree that snapped earlier, but then around 15 second you hear the cracking of wood and a 40 foot tree fall over missing the adjacent house. If you look extra close you will actually see 2 trees falling because a small tree goes down just before the large one. It is just to the right of the larger one, but is a bit shorter and falls around 16 seconds. This all occurred in the southern eyewall of Irene with winds out of the west.

  • Is this in Four Seasons?

  • @gtcoder2 I believe so... my chase partner says he did see a sign indicating Four Seasons.

  • awesome Rob!

  • @liquidstl Should see more of this as it was captured by more than one camera!

  • @NathansUniqueFilms Easy to find them after they are down, but always difficult to be shooting a tree as it falls. I thought I had a electrical pole snapping durring Hurricane Charley, but it turns out I had pressed the standby button on my camera and missed out on a lot of stuff!

  • Very cool, friend!

  • @MrJerkinTV This was shot from inside a car.

  • Great video, Rob! It was a truly impressive moment and one of the highlights of the chase of Irene. Greetings from Greensboro-Puerto Rico!

  • @pontiac51 its dangerous . do u stand outside ?

  • @MrJerkinTV Yes, and I'm still in Irene as gusts continue tonight near 60mph in Kitty Hawk, NC.
