From around 1977, this song was written after a return trip to Moose Jaw. I felt a greater distance from my hometown, possibly due to the then-recent deaths of some of the aunts and uncles I'd missed so much since moving to the west coast with my parents in the mid-sixties. The Soo Line is a railroad that ran between Chicago and Moose Jaw. Al Capone and his men were sometimes passengers when things got too heated in the Windy City, and the underground tunnels they used for their bootlegging operations are still there in MJ, a tourist attraction now.
I love this song. I agree with dwryman's comment.

solid gold. i think you should do this one now, with the added weight of the years behind it.
