Javed: Nawaz Sharif & Accountability

Javed Chaudhry - host of Kal Tak program in Pakistan - describes how the forced resignation of a senior party member by Nawaz Sharif on account of cheating in university exams may represent the beginning of a long overdue change in Pak culture of poor accountability and lack of integrity among public officials. As an aside, I find it amusing that the MNA (ie. member of National Assembly) caught cheating was a Haji. So much so for professed religious and moral piety!

As an aside, I find Mussolini and Shakespeare's insights about human nature to be particularly incisive. The former was correct in proclaiming that "whatever attracts our attention [in terms of interest] is our true self." Similarly, the latter was correct in his observation: "one's character becomes apparent when one chooses to remain silent on injustice and transgression." We have a "money at all costs" culture in Pak; our elite remains silent on corruption among its members.

PART 1:

I do NOT agree with Javed that forced resignation of Haji Pervez Khan for cheating in FA exam marks the beginning of a new political culture in Pakistan. Corruption is too entrenched in Pak society, culture, government, and politics to allow a clean break from the current practices. Nawaz Sharif is, however, a good politician in Punjab and may have made the right call in keeping with public mood. Still, politics is a "business" in Pakistan; there can be no public accountability.

Mian Sahib is always excellent in pulling such popularity triggers. I believe accountability always starts at home and so does loyalty go country / nation etc. If Mian sahib is so sincere as this guy is trying to prove in some odd ways , why does he not repatriate his billions of rupees lying in dubai , jeddah , london and US ? Why country is financially on its knees and we are spending millions to market and get foreign investments , our LEADERS are feeling safer keeping there money outside.SHM

Why sometime these intellectual people acts so stupidly Brother Javed Choudry, this is just because of that video or so called media that brought this news public.

The truth is only Punjabi supports Nawaz Sharif coz he speaks Punjabi. Rest of the country hates him especially Balochistan coz of his conspiracy, corruption and incompetence. However he is still in my good book.
