Pump Aid: The Elephant Pump

Pump Aid's Elephant Pump was developed and tested in Zimbabwe by Pump Aid and is based on a 2000 year old Chinese rope-and-washer design. It is cheap, simple and durable. It can be easily constructed from materials available locally and can be maintained by local communities. Good video and basic technology. Have you also seen the Afripump, which is also a very strong and simple design with no spare parts needed that will lift water from up to 100 m deep for 25+ years and is therefore a convenient and long lasting solution, google also for handpump or afripump for more info
