From his 1979 album Lodger

Lyrics:

Sometimes I feel
The need to move on
So I pack a bag
And move on
Move on

Well I might take a train
Or sail at dawn
Might take a girl
When I move on
When I move on

Somewhere, someone's calling me
When the chips are down
I'm just a travelling man
Maybe it's just a trick of the mind, but
Somewhere there's a morning sky
Bluer than her eyes
Somewhere there's an ocean
Innocent and wild

Africa is sleepy people
Russia has its horsemen
Spent some nights in old Kyoto
Sleeping on the matted ground

Cyprus is my island
When the going's rough
I would love to find you
Somewhere in a place like that

Somewhere, someone's calling me
When the chips are down
I stumble like a blind man
Can't forget you
Can't forget you

Feeling like a shadow
Drifting like a leaf
I stumble like a blind man
Can't forget you
Can't forget you

Can't forget you
Can't forget you

  • Love it! Love him! Love you..for posting!!!

  • @Fooblestheclown "Yassassin (Turkish for "Long Live")" is a song written by David Bowie in 1979 for the album Lodger. "Yassassin" is an incongruous reggae song with a Turkish flavour, and the third single to be released from Lodger, but only in the Netherlands and Turkey.

Bowie stayed in the Turkish enclaves while in Cyprus

  • sort of an exaggerated American drawl paradying cowboy movie talk.

  • what does it say backwards??

  • The chorus of this song makes me keep shivering !

  • @INGTORP You have to be genius to be able to write a song that's great and uniquely different both backwards and forwards.

  • I get the weirdest mixture of emotions when I listen to this song. I feel as though he's so full of hope, and yet resigned to his fate.

  • Great Song. Really pivotal to my life. Knowing the safari trip of love got caught short first sight of the mighty lion. Move On , the road has many more explorers.

  • @HugoTheThird So right Hugo. When I heard this song, I was 15 years old and filled with wanderlust. Everytime I hear this song, I just want to chuck all,and travel to find something, I do not know what.

    Alas, finances keep me grounded.

  • Play this song backwards and tell me what you hear!

  • one of my favourite bowie songs. gorgeous.
