"Parents and Teens: Connections with Impact" was inspired by focus group conversations with Wisconsin teens, who consistently voiced a desire for open communication with their parents.
Interviewers sought to discover what aspects of parent-teen relationships contributed to teen success. A common pattern of influence emerged.
To influence someone, we need to impact two areas:
1)Their knowledge about the choice--through
- INFORMATION we give,
- EXAMPLES we set, and
- EXPERIENCES that relate.
2)Their will to make the choice--by
- communicating a positive ATTITUDE about their ability and character,
- holding to RULES AND CONSEQUENCES, and
- embodying the GRACE of staying connected.
This segment demonstrates the power of INFORMATION and EXAMPLES provided by parents.
