This is a hydraulic log splitter my grandfather built years ago...it had a 4 cylinder wisconsin engine on it. It ran OK, but it frequently required filing the points, the occasional shot of ether, and the 6 volt system required a battery charge if it sat for more than a month. To alleviate all of those problems, I swapped in an Onan diesel out of a military surplus MEP-002A generator set. I bought the set for spare parts for several otherr -002A's and -003A's that I own; it had fallen off of a truck and took a tumble across a parking lot, so it was pretty banged up. But, the engine ran fine so I decided to try it out on the splitter. It was a bit of work, as the crankshaft was a flange style (not a keyed shaft like the engine it was replacing), but I fired it up and it runs great. Just as much power as the engine it replaced, more fuel efficient, and easier to start.
