  • Sorry you feel that way. All I can say is there are more and more folks in the US who are energized about doing things a different way.

  • The problem with Long-Term Care is that most care is done by Personal Support Workers and not nursing staff. In Canada we have a shortage of both.

  • Glad to hear understanding that nurses aren't being resistant to culture change, but that they have carried and understand the tremendous responsibilities of caring for residents and want to assure care is the best possible. As sicker people with complex needs enter nursing homes, increased clinical supervision and involvement are needed; homelike environments and decentralization support this but do not replace expert nursing involvement. It is a "nursing" home, not a hotel.

  • agreed with timpaws! If you are NOT a nurse...you have no idea! The largest probelm with just simple nursing in long term care is the fact, nurses really care for their patients, but the typical administration TELLS them what to do. Money talks, nursing gets to walk, and it hurts our hearts. Nursing shortage..wonder why? Because nurses aren't owned by the o'mighty dollar, and the general upper management plans don't provide for that!

  • Considerable flaws in the described model. I guess the "husband of a nurse" is qualified to expound theories that certainly contradict the professional expectations of registered nurses (in the UK at least - I'm sure the system is similar in the US). If you need your house re-wiring I'll tell you the best way, I used to go out with an electrician. That'll be $400 please. . . kerchinggg!
