why did it take your mbp and imac so long to shut down? shutting down isn't a big deal but my macbook (white polycarbonate) 2.4ghz 4gb ram takes about 5 seconds o_O i don't understand how both your computers (both of which are better than mine) took longer?

What most people don't get is that the processor doesn't play much of a role in the speed the boot. I could drop an SSD into a 10 year old mac and get it to boot faster than the latest Mac Pro 12 core. So for all intents are purposes these boot up tests are useless. Of course hard drives are faster now than years ago.
